Una sentinella a guardia della costa
Immagina Brolo come una sentinella che vigila sulla costa tirrenica. La sua torre, eretta come difesa contro le incursioni dei pirati, dominava un largo tratto di mare, proteggendo il borgo, i suoi abitanti e il commercio di tutto il territorio.
Oltre alla naturale difesa del mare, un sistema di cinte murarie circondava il borgo.
L’accesso era protetto da un doppio ingresso: un primo arco nella parte esterna e uno più interno che conduceva alla torre fortificata.
Ma non è finita qui. A completare il sistema difensivo, un bastione con porta a tenaglia si ergeva a guardia del borgo. Questo ingegnoso sistema architettonico costringeva gli assalitori ad attraversare un’angusta curva, dove diventavano facili bersagli per i difensori del Castello.
La torre di Brolo non era solo una fortezza, ma anche un simbolo di potenza e di sicurezza per gli abitanti e per i commercianti che approdavano al porto, così protetti dai pericoli del mare.
A Sentinel on the Tyrrhenian Coast
Imagine Brolo as a sentinel watching over the Tyrrhenian coast. Its tower, erected as a defense against pirate raids, dominated a wide stretch of sea, protecting the village, its inhabitants, and the trade of the entire territory.
In addition to the natural defense provided by the sea, a system of walls surrounded the village. Access was protected by a double entrance: a first arch in the outer part and a more internal one that led to the fortified tower.
But that’s not all. To complete the defensive system, a bastion with a barbican gate stood guard over the village. This ingenious architectural system forced attackers to traverse a narrow curve, where they became easy targets for the defenders of the Castle.
The tower of Brolo was not only a fortress but also a symbol of power and security for the inhabitants and for the merchants who docked at the port, thus protected from the dangers of the sea.
